This sensational and very easy to handle app transforms your iPhone or iPodTouch into a real thermometer device. You can practically measure environmental temperature from -20°C up to 140°C or 0°F up to 320°F. You may switch between Celcius and Fahrenheit on the fly within the application. The temperature is displayed on a big analog instrument.

To operate this app you need some additional hardware option that you have to connect to the headphone connector via a 4 pin plug. All you have to do in this little DIY project is to connect a NTC 10hOhm thermistor, a 0.1uF cap and a 180Ohm resistor to the plug. The circuit is shown within the help page of the app.

DISCLAIMER

Dont waste your money
The combination of the temperature probe and software do not function properly. Most of the time but not always when the iPod or the Thermometer program is turned on, the calibration slider moves to another location needing re-calibrtion, sometimes it resets to 0°C and will not respond at all until switched off and on again. This means you need to carry an accurate thermometer with you to re-calibrate all the time therefor making the unit redundant. The same with the switch for °F and °C, when set to °F, the next time it is turned on it reverts to °C again. It is very difficult to calibrate the unit accurately, (I use a digital thermometer for calibration), I could never come closer than 1.5 °F, either over or under the actual temperature. The digital readout does not convert the temperature properly either, 18.1°C when switched to °F reads 76°F. Properly converted 18.1°C is 64.58°F, 11.42 °F is a big difference from what it should be. This temperature probe is overpriced (approximately $35 including shipping) but if someone really wants it, one should expect a product to function as advertised, it did not even look the same as shown on their website. The manufacturer of the hardware probe has not responded to my inquiries except for the first time when the only response was, the unit does not need re-calibration, no further response to additional inquiries or the fact that they shipped something other than shown. Very poor to non-existent customer service. Dont waste your money.
Great hardware / software combo
With a small, reasonably-priced plug-in piece of hardware, you have a calibratable thermometer. You CAN build your own, but the parts supplier listed would not ship to USA. Great item, once calibrated it drifts +/- about 0.5 degrees. Next option - which would give it 5 stars - would be selectable ranges. I have little need to measure >150 F.
Good thermometer
Its pretty cool App (with the probe) but, its a little difficult to calibrate it. Good reference thermometer. ;)
difficult to calibrate
its fare more than difficult to calibrate it !!!
